Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey recently described how working as an emergency dispatcher in New York City inspired Twitter’s model, citing paper sketching as the key behind turning ideas, even non-visual ideas, into moving products.

Dorsey spoke at the The 99% Conference, the full video of which you’ll find below. His full statement on the power of drawing ideas is worth pulling out:

Start drawing your ideas. Start getting it out of your head, and seeing it from a completely different perspective, and more importantly, sharing it with others.

It’s similar to how other productive types view the power of paper, including developer and blogger Christopher Schanck’s theory that it didn’t happen if you don’t write it down. It’s inspiring, though, to see loose sketching turn into the social network you can’t stop hearing about everywhere you go. The full Dorsey clip:
